Stephen Porzio

Very sad news.

An Irish man has died following a hit-and-run in north London at the weekend, according to reports.

In a statement, the Met Police said they were called at around 12.30am on Sunday (26 June) to a report of a van in collision with a 62-year-old pedestrian in Northumberland Park in Haringey.

The driver of the van did not stop and the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following a police investigation, the van was found a short distance away and a man in his 30s was arrested and taken into police custody.

Met Police have said detectives from its Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating the incident.

Any witnesses to the crash that have yet to speak with police are asked to come forward.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has said it stands ready to provide consular assistance upon request.
