An Irish man has died in a road accident in Thailand.

The 39-year-old man was originally from Longford but had been teaching English in Thailand for the last number of years.

It's understood that the man lost his life after he was involved in a road traffic accident in the Chiang Rai province in northern Thailand on Tuesday night.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed to JOE that they're aware of the incident and are providing consular assistance.
