There were some developments on the story in Australia today.

Barry Lyttle, who attacked his brother and left him in an Intensive Care Unit at a hospital in Sydney, has been released on a $2,000 bail.

The 33-year-old was charged with grievous bodily harm following an alleged single-punch attack just days after arriving in the Australian city to visit his brother Patrick.

The Antrim man appeared in court earlier, where his dad was present, and was granted bail on strict conditions.

Those conditions are that he surrender his passport and not approach his brother within 12 hours of drinking alcohol.

Lyttle is expected to escape the mandatory minimum sentence for GBH because the recorded level of alcohol in his system just after the assault was quite low.

There are new controversial laws in New South Wales where people can be sentenced to a minimum of four years in jail for assaults where a high level of alcohol is involved.
