Tragic news.
An Irish tourist has sadly died after a drowning incident took place at a swimming pool on the Spanish Costa Dorada.
Emergency services were called to the holiday apartment block in La Pineda near the east coast city of Tarragona when alerts went out at around 11am on Tuesday (9 August).
They attempted to revive the man, in his late 40s, at the scene but it was unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead. His body was removed for a post-mortem examination.
Spanish police have confirmed the man was Irish, with a spokesman for the regional Mossos d’Esquadra police force saying: “There is nothing at this stage to suggest this man’s death was the result of a crime and it is being treated as accidental.”
The man was said to have been staying with family at an apartment complex called Apartments Pineda Park.
The resort describes itself as “ideal for the accommodation of families with children and couples who want to spend a vacation on the Costa Dorada, where the best beaches on the Mediterranean coast are located”.
The town of Tarragona is popular with Irish families on holiday and is located near Salou and Barcelona.
