Irish Rail issues notice of cancellations, delays and speed restrictions on routes across Ireland

If you have a ticket and don’t wish to travel, you’ll be entitled to a refund.

Irish Rail have notified customers of a series of travel arrangements put in place for Monday, October 16 due to weather warnings in place for Hurricane Ophelia.

As of 7.45am, all DART, Intercity and Commuter services are operating apart from two routes from Limerick, although there are delays to a number of routes and speed restrictions on a number of others due to the anticipated severe weather conditions from the post-tropical storm.

You can check out all the arrangements below; Irish Rail have also stated that any passenger who has bought a ticket for today and does not wish to travel will be entitled to a refund and that they can also change a train time for any other train today for no charge.

Irish Rail travel arrangements, Monday 16 October

  • DISRUPTION TO MOST ROUTES TO/FROM HEUSTON
  • Connolly routes still operating at present
  • No services on Limerick Junction to Waterford, Limerick to Ballybrophy via Nenagh

UPDATE 09:00hrs, Monday, 16 October

The following rail service arrangements are in place this morning, Monday, 16 October due to the weather warnings in place for Hurricane Ophelia.

All DART and Commuter services through Connolly are currently operating.  Belfast, Sligo and Rosslare services are currently operating.

On Heuston and regional routes, the following arrangements are in place:

  • Limerick Junction to Waterford all services cancelled
  • Limerick to Ballybrophy via Nenagh all services cancelled
  • Cork/Dublin: 09.00 Dublin to Cork and 09.20 Cork to Dublin will operate. After this, all services suspended until further notice
  • Limerick: 08.55 Limerick to Dublin will operate. After this, all services suspended until further notice
  • Western Rail Corridor: 10:30 Galway Limerick will operate after that there will be no service until further notice
  • Kerry: 09:25 Mallow Tralee will operate after that there will be no service until further notice
  • 10:15 Heuston Waterford and 07:50 Waterford Heuston will operate. After that no services will operate until further notice
  • Westport Heuston services are all cancelled until further notice with the exception of 09:08 Athlone Wesport which will operate
  • Cork/Cobh and Cork/Midleton services will terminate at 10:00hrs until further notice
  • Portlaoise Commuter services will terminate after 11:20 Heuston Portlaoise & 11:20 Portlaoise Heuston until further notice

Line maintenance teams will be monitoring the network throughout the weather warnings associated to address any impacts from Hurricane Ophelia, and will take all measures necessary throughout the day to ensure the safety of rail services, including:

  • Removing trees or other debris from lines
  • Managing the safe operation of level crossings
  • Imposing further speed restrictions as necessary as the storm progresses
  • Line closures if it is considered unsafe to continue operating services
