The number of people killed on Irish roads has now risen to 109 after five people died in multiple incidents across the country over a 24 hour period this week.
The latest incident happened near Enfield in Co. Meath on Wednesday afternoon, where a woman in her 80s was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash.
The collision, which occurred on the R148 shortly after 2pm, also involved a driver of a second vehicle, who was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
The crash in Meath follows a spate of similar incidents across the country in Dublin and Donegal.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a man, aged in his 40s, was struck and killed in a hit and run on the coast road in Baldoyle.
The car involved in the incident in Baldoyle was reportedly stolen from a nearby address.
Just after 2pm on Wednesday, a young motorcyclist in his 20s lost his life following a single-vehicle collision in Finglas on the Old North Road.
Before midnight on Wednesday, a man and a woman, both in their 70s, were also killed after the car they were travelling in collided with another vehicle on the N56 at Kilmacrennan in Donegal.
Road deaths in Ireland are now at 109 since the start of 2024, 19 more than this time last year (92).
