Awful news.

Reports have emerged that an Irish teenager is in critical condition following a bad fall in Lanzarote.

It has been reported that the 15-year-old, who has not been named, fell from a height of up to 15 feet and sustained serious injury. He is currently at Doctor Jose Molina Orosa Hospital on the island.

While a report by the regional government-run emergency services coordination centre did not confirm the teenager’s nationality, local press have described him as Irish. The Department of Foreign Affairs has also confirmed the teenager’s nationality, and are currently offering assistance in the case.

In a statement issued to JOE, a spokesperson for the department said: “The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.”

The incident occurred in Lanzarote’s Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen just before 4am on Monday. The circumstances surrounding the fall have not been confirmed.
