Irish triathlete Conor Murphy has launched an online appeal to try and find the driver who knocked down his two sisters, then fled the scene.

Oonagh and Fiona Murphy, from Portadown in Co Armagh, were training on their bikes on the road to Moy in Tyrone when they were hit by the overtaking car.

The women, both aged in their twenties, suffered injuries in the crash which occurred on June 27 with Oonagh suffering what are described as “life-changing injuries”.

“Oonagh sustained horrific life-changing injuries; a damaged nervous system, broken bones and deep lacerations,” according to her brother Conor.

“They were smashed into at high speed by a hit and run driver on the Moy Road in Portadown (just over 1km) past the Scotch Street filling station, heading towards the Moy.”

While Oonagh was the most seriously injured in the crash and will require a long stay in hospital, Fiona was left unconscious and bloodied in the incident.

However, she was able to identify a dark-coloured car, believed to be a Vauxhall or Opel Astra G, slowing down after the incident before driving on without stopping.

Police are looking for anyone with information on the incident to contact Portadown Police Station and are also looking for the owner of the black Astra (pictured above) to come forward so they can eliminate them from the investigation.

Hat tip to sticky bottle.
