Irishman in critical condition after fall from construction site in Australia

The Irishman sustained serious injuries in a fall from a building site on Monday morning.

An Irishman is in a critical condition after falling from a building site in a suburb of Gold Coast in Australia on Monday morning.

According to the Gold Coast Bulletin, a 37-year-old plasterer fell from the seventh floor of the Aura Varsity Lakes Apartments. He suffered multiple fractures to his legs and ribs and was put into an induced coma at the scene by paramedics. He remains in a critical condition at Gold Coast University Hospital.

In a statement on the incident on Monday, Alder Constructions said: “At about 7am this morning a worker for a subcontractor on the Alder Constructions site at 33 Lakefront Crescent, Varsity Lakes has fallen from scaffolding.

“He was taken by ambulance to Gold Coast University Hospital. Our priority is the people involved and our thoughts are with his family and workers onsite.

“Mates in Constructions have provided counselling for these workers and ongoing support is available.

“Alder Construction takes safety seriously and an investigation is underway. We are working with the relevant authorities to determine the cause.”

Speaking to JOE, a spokesperson for the Department Foreign Affairs said that they were aware of the incident and while they have not yet been contacted, they stand ready to provide consular assistance.
