Irishman shot dead in reported car-jacking in Mexico (Report)

The circumstances surrounding the man’s death remain unclear.

A man in his late 20s from Louth was reportedly shot dead during a car-jacking incident in Mexico.

According to local media reports, the man was shot during a car-jacking in Lázaro Cárdenas in the state of Michoacán on the west coast of Mexico.

It is believed that the man survived for several hours after the shooting but was later pronounced dead. He is also reported to have been travelling on an Irish passport and carrying a UK driving licence.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said that it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.
