Italian politician Silvio Berlusconi sentenced to seven years in jail

The bunga bunga parties look like they may well be over for everyone’s favourite partying Prime Minister, as Silvio Berlusconi is sentenced to jail

Silvio Berlusconi is staring down the barrel of a seven year stint in jail and what we presume to be a very different lifestyle to the one that he has become accustomed to.

Berlusconi was charged with paying for sex with an under age prostitute as well as abuse of office after he got Karima El Mahroug, a Moroccan-born pole dancer, released from police custody.

According to The Telegraph, Berluscsoni attempted to get her off a charge of theft as he was concerned she would reveal she had been attending his bunga bunga parties, and told police that she was the granddaughter of Hosni Mubarak and needed to be released to avoid a diplomatic incident with Cairo.

However, this is the second time in the last few months that Berlusconi has been sentenced to jail after being given a four year stint in December last year, but he seems to have the knack of getting out of it somehow.

He still has the right to appeal the decision, a process which takes months, so don’t expect him to be behind bars any time soon. He has however been banned from public office too, so we won’t be seeing him in the public eye too much during the appeal.
