It’s now illegal to get sick in this Italian town

Pulling a sickie was never as dangerous

Getting sick can costly you dearly in this town.

An entire town with a population of 500 citizens, most of whom are of retiring age, has been banned from falling ill by their mayor Davide Zicchinella.

The southern village of Sellia is now a sick-free zone as the mayor is on a mission to improve the local health.

Mr Zicchinella, who is a retired doctor is promising tax breaks for locals who use the local health services to remain fit and healthy and he has also put in place penalties for those who do not look after themselves.

“Those who don’t take preventive measures, and jeopardise their own health and that of our village, will have to pay more taxes,” he told the AGI news agency reports.

This is just one measure being taken to try and repopulate the small towns and villages of Italy.

In Sicily, a town called Gangi is giving away abandoned houses as long as they are renovated within three years.

Moving to Sicily to do up a free house with your mates sounds like a lot of fun to us, living somewhere where it’s illegal to get sick, not as amusing.
