The Kerry politician has passed away.
One of the most well-known Irish politicians of the last 25 years, Jackie Healy-Rae, has died today at the age of 83.
The South Kerry man was in office in the Dail from 1997 to 2011 as an Independent TD. Before that, he was a member of the Fianna Fail party.
He retired in 2008 but his sons Michael and Danny and his nephew, Johnny are all keeping the Healy-Rae name, which is synonymous in South Kerry, going in politics.
Healy-Rae had been ill for several months and sadly passed away this afternoon. Our condolences to his family.
