Cian Healy is about to head home after being ruled out of the Lions Tour through injury, but as Jamie Heaslip illustrated, it wasn’t because of any lack of trying on Healy’s part.

The Leinster and Ireland prop always looked up against it in his battle to recover from the ankle injury suffered against the Western Force on Wednesday, especially considering that the first test against the Wallabies in Brisbane is now only a fortnight away.

Healy received the bad news yesterday that he had suffered significant ankle ligament damage and would play no further part in the tour but until he received confirmation of the injury, Healy was determined to do all he could to speed up the recovery process, as illustrated by a picture Jamie Heaslip tweeted from the Lions team room yesterday.

It is a massive blow for Healy and for the Lions after it was also confirmed that Gethin Jenkins will also be flying home because of a calf injury, but the man known as Proper Church is made of stern stuff and will no doubt come back stronger than ever next season.
