JK Rowling and others slam Donald Trump for comments about far-right rally

Getting a lot of heat…

Donald Trump’s Twitter feed was relatively quiet yesterday morning, which is surprising considering the very serious situation taking place in Charlottesville, Virginia.

He was called out for his silence by JK Rowling.

Later on Saturday, we finally got a tweet from the US President, which read: “We ALL must be united & condemn all that hate stands for. There is no place for this kind of violence in America. Lets come together as one!”

A state of emergency was declared in Charlottesville at 11am on Saturday and later, a woman was killed and 19 people injured when a car ploughed into a crowd of counter-protesters.

Michael Signer, the town’s mayor, laid blame on Trump in a statement saying: “I’m not going to make any bones about it. I place the blame for a lot of what you’re seeing in America today right at the doorstep of the White House and the people around the President.”

Trump condemned the violence in a press conference on Saturday saying, “We’re closely following the terrible events unfolding in Charlottesville, Virginia. We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence, on many sides. On many sides.”

But the words, “On many sides,” did not sit well with some people.
