Joe Duffy’s ‘beloved’ mum Mabel passes away aged 92

She passed away yesterday afternoon.

Mabel Duffy, the mother of Irish radio personality Joe Duffy, has passed away at the age of 92.

Her death was confirmed by her son’s management agency NK Management.

A post by the group on Instagram said: “It is with great sadness that NK Management announce the passing of Joe Duffy’s beloved mother, Mabel (92) on Sunday afternoon in Kiltipper Woods Care Centre surrounded by her loving family.”

Mabel’s funeral will take place at 11:30am at St. Matthew’s Church in Finglas on Wednesday morning.

Her death notice describes her as the “beloved wife to the late Jimmy, cherished mother of James, Joseph, Peter, Brendan and Pauline, predeceased by her youngest son Aidan (25).”

It also states that she will be missed by her sisters, Monica and Patsy, her in-laws, Bernard, Stephen and Marie, as well as her nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.

Mabel was a grandmother to Wayne, Geoffrey, Ciara, Ian, Emma, Darragh, Seana, Conor, Ellen, Seán and Ronan, and she had great-grandchildren as well.

Two years ago, Joe spoke about how his mother had been dealing with cocooning alone during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He told the Irish Mirror: “My biggest fear right now is for my own mother who is 92 years of age and she is cocooned at home in Ballyfermot.

“She lives on her own and she is very mobile and she is handling it really well so far.”

The Liveline presenter said that while she misses mass and being able to go get her hair done, she is still “managing”.

He continued: “Unfortunately, a few of her friends have died from the same age group.”

“But she has no underlying conditions so we reckon that once she stays cocooned, she will be fine. It is the same for everyone and you worry about your parents.”
