Jonathan Majors arrested on assault charges in New York

The actor was charged with strangulation, assault and harassment after a woman sustained head and neck injuries.

New York City police have said that Jonathan Majors, the star of Creed III and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, was involved in a domestic dispute on Saturday with a 30-year-old woman.

Police responded at about 11am to a 911 call inside an apartment in the Chelsea area of Manhattan.

“The victim informed police she was assaulted,” a spokesperson for the NYPD said in a statement. “Officers placed the 33-year-old male into custody without incident. The victim sustained minor injuries to her head and neck and was removed to an area hospital in stable condition.”

NYPD confirmed to The Associated Press that Majors was no longer in police custody as of Saturday night.

A representative for the actor released a statement following the arrest, denying any wrongdoing. “He has done nothing wrong. We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this up.”

Majors’ breakthrough role in 2019’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco saw the actor become one of the rising stars of Hollywood over the past few years. He also starred in Da 5 Bloods, The Harder They Fall and Devotion.

He starred alongside Michael B. Jordan in Creed III as Damian “Diamond Dame” Anderson, which released in cinemas earlier this year. He also recently appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as Kang the Conqueror.

This year, Majors confirmed he will be playing Dennis Rodman in an upcoming project called 48 Hours in Las Vegas.
