The Dublin defender has thanked everyone for their support and revealed that he will be making no further comment on an incident that happened in Dublin ten days ago.

Cooper was attacked on Dorset Street in the early hours of Saturday morning, September 20, having been socialising after taking part in a championship match for his club, Na Fianna, the previous evening.

After studying CCTV footage of the incident, the Gardai arrested a 31-year old man, who was released without charge last night. Cooper, who was released from hospital the day after the attack, released a statement on the incident today thanking everyone for their support and saying that he would be making no further comment on the matter.

The statement read as follows:

My family and I would like to sincerely thank everyone for the enormous support that I have received over the past ten days. That support has come from everywhere and has been incredibly helpful and humbling to me. To all the professional personnel that took care of me on the night and since the event – I thank you. I will never forget you for it. Dublin is a great place; it is a safe place and it is my home. If nothing else, this can be a lesson that when you’re out, stay safe and stick together.

An Gardaí Síochána and the relevant authorities are handling the matter from here onwards and I have every faith in their commitment to securing a positive outcome. I have moved on now to focus on the things that matter in my life: family, friends, work and football. I will not be making any further comment on the matter and would greatly appreciate if that can be respected.

Thank you,

Jonny
