Speaking on a recent podcast episode, Thomas explained the situation occurred while she was filming ‘No Frontiers’.
Kathryn Thomas has revealed that she was ‘chased by a man with a machete’ while filming her RTÉ travel show, ‘No Frontiers’.
The presenter recently joined Mark Moriarty for the most recent episode of his podcast ‘Roasted’.
While in her early 20’s, Thomas began working at RTÉ, building an audience with her travel show ‘No Frontiers’
Reminiscing on a trip she made to Papua New Guinea in the early 2000’s as part of the show, she revealed how she was left fearing for her life after a tribesman charged at her with a machete.
She commented: “I thought ‘this is where it’s all going to end’. I thought I would have a different reaction, I thought I’d fight or run or scream, but all of a sudden the fear overcame me and I just remember bowing my head.
In a previous appearance on Virgin Media’s ‘Six O’Clock Show’, Thomas said the man had eaten hallucinogenic nuts.
“I could feel him running at me and feel the knife, and he was screaming at me and I could feel this spit on my face as he was screaming,” explained the former ‘Operation Transformation’ host.
She added: “We were four days from civilisation. It could have genuinely ended very differently than it did. I still say it was one of the best trips that we did!”
Additionally, she discussed with Moriarty why she wanted to enter the world of media in the first place.
The presenter told him that she was initially determined to star in movies and therefore worked in production to learn more about the industry.
“I wanted to go to Hollywood, I was going to be an actress, be in big feature films. I did voluntary work in TV production companies around Dublin – to get closer to Hollywood!” recalled Thomas.
She revealed that she first considered presenting when labelling videos ‘in the basement of Coco television’.
“I was labelling videos of presenters going for roles that I said, ‘I could do this, this is easier than acting – all you’ve to do is be yourself’.”
