Kerry bachelor ‘couldn’t clear his pub’ after hours as he was too attractive

The law stepped in

We feel his pain.

Kenmare bachelor and publican James O’Connor has appeared in court after twice being caught serving pints after hours in O’Connor’s Bar in Kenmare.

O’Connor was working at 1.50am on Saturday, June 2nd 2014 when Gardaí discovered more than 100 people on his premises.

There were around 28 people in the pub when the police returned on the night of August 23rd/24th.

The excuse, put forward by his solicitor, is pure gold.

“They weren’t all consuming alcohol. There is a strong social aspect to the premises – there is a social attraction there in that my client is a bachelor and young women find him very attractive,” his solicitor Pádraig O’Connell is reported to have said in The Irish Times.

He went on to say that his client was, “a slight rogue.”

“Many of your clients are rogues!” the judge answered back.

Sgt Derek Fleming from Kenmare intervened and said: “The problem is he can’t get them [the public] out at night – the premises is beside the Square Pint night club and they wait in his bar until it is time to go there.”

The August charge was withdrawn when O’Connor pled guilty to the June incident. He was fined €200 and ordered to undergo facial reconstruction surgery.

That last bit was a lie.
