Two people have died after getting into difficulty while swimming off the coast of Kerry on Thursday (4 August).
Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the scene at Ballybunion beach at approximately 6pm.
The two people – a 50-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman – got into difficulty while in the water.
They were taken from the water and pronounced dead a short time later.
The bodies of both have since been removed from the scene by ambulance to the mortuary in University Hospital Kerry.
A file is set to be prepared for the Coroner.
