“Life will never be the same.”

Earlier this week, news emerged that Italian jockey, Stefano Cherchi, had died following a fall in Australia.

The native of Sardinia was racing in Canberra two weeks ago when he suffered a fall and was rushed to hospital with a head injury and internal bleeding.

Cherchi’s fall was labelled a ‘freak accident’ after his horse, Hasime, came down in an incident which involved another two horses.

He was attended to on the track for around an hour before being rushed to hospital.

His parents and girlfriend, Brittany Fallon, the daughter of former jockey Kieran Fallon, flew out to be by his bedside.

Cherchi had rode over 100 winners in Britain during his time in Newmarket and had achieved two wins in Australia since January.

Cherchi was put into an induced coma in a Canberra hospital intensive care unit.

News emerged on Wednesday (April 3) that Cherchi has succumbed to his injuries and died, reported the Irish Daily Mirror.

Cherchi was the long-term boyfriend of Kieran Fallon’s daughter.

Brittany’s followers were full of support for her as she grieved Cherchi’s loss, with one writing: “I’m so sorry. Thinking of you all and sending all my love.”

Another wrote: “Oh Britt. Thinking of you.”

Her brother, Cieren Fallon Jr, wrote “Love you” before posting to Instagram himself with his own tribute to Cherchi.

Thousands of other tributes to Cherchi were shared online.

A post from NSW Jockeys read: “With deep sadness, the Cherchi family have announced their beloved son Stefano passed away peacefully today. The family are very grateful for the love, prayers & messages sent by the racing community across the world.”
