Lance Armstrong has pulled out of appearance at Dublin Zero One conference

Holy moly…

Lance Armstrong has withdrawn from his scheduled appearance at the One Zero Conference in Dublin on Friday, October 21.

The former cyclist cited legal reasons for pulling out of the planned interview with journalist Ewan McKenna at the 11th hour.

Armstrong had been signed to speak at the Conference since August cancelled his appearance at the event on advice from his legal team over an upcoming Federal court case aimed at him by the US Postal Service.

While the court case is, and has been well-known for quite some time, it was assured that it wouldn’t be a problem for Armstrong to be interviewed at the conference.

Speaking on the radio two weeks ago, Armstrong said:

“I’ve done dozens of these (talks) since that case was opened and I’ve never been put in a position where I thought, oh no, that’s too sensitive or too close to that subject.”

The organisers of the talk received a communication from Armstrong team on Thursday, October 20, stating that he was no longer willing to attend the event.

Co-founder of One Zero, Rob Hartnett, said: We are extremely disappointed that Armstrong has withdrawn at the last minute from appearing at One Zero. He has let us down, he has let his fans down and his has let down those that wanted to hear him openly discuss his past and the future of sport”.

The One Zero Conference will still go ahead with 34 other speakers lined up to address the conference tomorrow including Shane Lowry, John Kavanagh, Sir Clive Woodward and Jamie Fuller.

Tickets for the event cost between €175 and €775 for the VIP package.
