Two men have been arrested in connection to Laois footballer assault

The incident took place in the early hours of Monday morning.

As previously reported, Daniel O’Reilly, a footballer in his early 20s, was attacked while waiting at a taxi rank in the Potato Market area of Carlow town shortly after 1am on Monday.

The altercation, which involved a number of assailants, left O’Reilly in serious condition with a number of fractures to his skull. O’Reilly was brought to St Luke’s Hospital where his condition was described as serious but stable.

On Tuesday morning, Gardaí released a statement claiming that two men had been arrested in relation to the assault.

Both men are in their 20s, and Gardaí have confirmed that they were arrested in connection with the investigation.

They were arrested on Tuesday 3 April 3rd and are detained in Kilkenny and Thomastown Garda Stations under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.
