There has been a 34% increase in UK-based applicants for Irish positions.

There has been record growth in the amount of applications from UK jobseekers for positions in Ireland in the last year, according to Irish jobs website IrishJobs.ie.

Due to the events of Brexit, when compared to 2017, the recruitment website reported a 34% growth in UK-based applicants for Irish positions in 2018.

The main sectors where UK citizens are applying for jobs in Ireland are in IT, construction and the public sector.

Information Technology roles saw the largest increase in applications from the UK (+47%) followed by construction, architecture and property (+46%) and public sector roles (+45%).

The UK accounted for 27% of all overseas jobseekers to the website.

Speaking about the findings, Safann Mac Carthy, Marketing Director for IrishJobs.ie, said: “Ireland offers stability, well-paid jobs, a world-renowned education system and access to the EU. These are attractive traits for mobile professionals.”

The last 12 months has seen Ireland experience an influx of major corporations relocating their EMEA headquarters or expanding their existing Irish operations.

According to IDA figures published on 3 January, there were 55 significant Brexit-related investments made by multinationals in Ireland in 2018, creating more than 4,500 new jobs.

In August 2018, UK financial institution Barclays began to move direct ownership of its French, German and Spanish branches from a UK-based entity to its new Irish headquarters.

Earlier this month, meanwhile, French insurance group AXA announced its intention to relocate a yet-to-be-confirmed number of its senior UK staff to its Irish operations over the coming months.
