Huge news concerning healthcare…

Minster for Health Leo Varadkar has announced that the government plans to abolish the HSE within the next five years.

Varadkar said that on the back of reforms being put in place to hospital and community structures, the dismantlement of the HSE can be achieved within the next five years.

This is providing that the current government makes it back into the office in the next general election.

Varadkar made the announcement annual conference of the Irish Hospital Consultants Association (IHCA) in Tullamore, Co Offaly.

The plans mean that the government is moving forward with former Health Minister James Reilly’s vision of a universal health insurance.

“I am a strong believer in universal healthcare, by which I mean access to affordable healthcare for everyone in a timely manner. But the foundations have to be put in place first,” Varadkar said.

The aim is to increase the affordability of healthcare to the people of Ireland.
