The Tánaiste said the rise in patients in hospital and intensive care with Covid-19 is “slowing”.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said Ireland is “all ok” for the next stage of reopening on Monday, 6 September.

In a Tweet, Varadkar stated that the Covid-19 vaccination of members of the public under the age of 35 is “really working now” and that Covid-19 cases have “plateaued” or are “falling”.

He added that the rise in patients in hospital and intensive care with the virus is “slowing”, writing: “All ok for next stage of re-opening on Monday.”

You can see his statement in full below.

From Monday, a number of remaining Covid-19 restrictions are to be eased.

Organised indoor events and mass gatherings will be able to take place with capacity limits of 60% where all patrons are fully vaccinated against Covid-19, recovered from the virus within the previous six months or accompanied minors.

Meanwhile, organised outdoor events and mass gatherings can happen with capacity limits of 75% under the same guidelines for patrons as organised indoor events.

Live music at weddings will also be permitted, while all religious ceremonies can proceed with 50% of venue capacity regardless of immunity status of attendees.
