"She is an amazing big sister."

The family of the young girl who was injured in the Parnell stabbing have welcomed a baby boy.

Both the mother her daughter cannot be identified for legal reasons, but revealed the new addition arrived earlier this year.

She told Sky News: "It was tough even thinking about having a second child, considering what happened. But we thought it would benefit all of us"

The mother further shared her daughter 'loves' her baby brother, who was named after his father's heritage.

"She is an amazing big sister, as she keeps a watchful eye on him."

At the age of 5, her daughter was left with a life-changing brain injury after being stabbed in the heart by 52-year-old Riad Bouchaker outside a school on Parnell Square East in November 2023.

The incident sparked historic riots across Dublin city centre, the aftermath of which saw dozens of people arrested and significant damage caused to businesses, public transport and emergency vehicles.

Algerian-born Bouchaker was convicted earlier this month on eight charges, including the attempted murder of three children, and will be sentenced later this year.

The girl's mother described the guilty verdict as a relief, and added she did not feel anger towards the man responsible.

She continued to say that her family would never truly find closure after what happened.
