Leo Varadkar says over 40,000 Covid vaccines will be given out this week

Stephen Donnelly has also said that Ireland is third per capita in the EU in daily numbers receiving a Covid vaccine.

Leo Varadkar has said that Ireland is beginning to catch up on other countries with regards to our Covid vaccination figures.

While no official figures have been released thus far, Varadkar did say that over 40,000 vaccines will be done this week across the country.

Sharing a graphic that showed Ireland to be on the increase with regards to the number vaccines being given out per week, Varadkar said: "Catching up. Ireland should be in top ten soon. 40k plus vaccines will be done this week. Nursing home residents, staff and healthcare workers."

Speaking on Wednesday night, Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said that Ireland is third per capita in the EU, behind Denmark and Spain, in daily numbers receiving a Covid vaccine.

Donnelly also said that the army, GPs and pharmacies will all be involved in the rollout of the vaccine.

While no specific data is yet available, Donnelly also said that the latest vaccine figures will be available on the Covid data hub online from this weekend.

Wednesday night saw the Republic of Ireland report 63 further Covid-19 deaths, as well as 3,569 new cases.
