Lewis Hamilton apologises for yelling at his nephew for wearing a dress

Carl Kinsella

Formula One star Lewis Hamilton caused a commotion this Christmas when he posted an Instagram story of himself telling off his young nephew for happily wearing a dress.

The short video featured Hamilton raising his voice and telling his giggling nephew that boys don’t wear dresses, after incredulously asking if he had asked for the dress for Christmas.

Hamilton came in for a lot of criticism on Twitter after the video went viral, and this afternoon he apologised for his behaviour.

On his own Twitter account, Hamilton wrote “Yesterday I was playing around with my nephew and realised that my words were inappropriate so I removed the post. I meant no harm and did not mean to offend anyone at all. I love that my nephew feels free to express himself as we all should.”

“My deepest apologies for my behaviour as I realise it is really not acceptable for anyone, no matter where you are from, to marginalise or stereotype anyone.”

“I have always been in support of anyone living their life exactly how they wish and I hope I can be forgiven for this lapse in judgement.”
