Gardaí are trying to establish exactly what happened after a Brazilian woman in her early 30s was found dead inside a Limerick apartment on Friday morning.
Officers were called to the building on Lower Cecil Street at around 7.30am, after a friend became concerned when the woman failed to turn up for work.
The Irish Mirror reported that the apartment block was quickly secured, with Gardaí spending the day speaking to residents and looking for CCTV footage from both the building and the surrounding area.
The circumstances of the death are being treated as suspicious, with investigators reportedly considering whether the woman may have been the victim of foul play.
However, Gardaí have yet to determine the direction of the investigation and are awaiting the findings of a post-mortem examination.
The apartment remained a protected scene while forensic and technical examinations were carried out, with the State Pathologist due to attend. The woman’s body was later removed from the property and brought to the mortuary.
Gardaí have said they are examining “all the circumstances” surrounding the discovery, with the post-mortem results expected to provide investigators with more information about what happened.
