The firearm was seized on Sunday evening.

As part of ongoing investigations targeting serious criminal activity in the Dublin region, a targeted search operation on Sunday evening resulted in the seizure of a loaded firearm.

The search occurred in the Balgaddy area of Lucan, County Dublin on the evening of 21 January and was conducted by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau with support from the Special Crime Task Force.

During the search operation, a loaded “PM – 63 RAK” sub machine gun (pending ballistic examination) with an additional clip of ammunition was recovered.

One male, aged 20, has been arrested and is currently detained at Ronanstown Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.

Gardaí also issued a warning to car owners on Monday morning regarding car theft in the Greater Dublin Area.

An Garda Síochána took to Twitter on Monday to warn Irish road users of the very real threat car owners are subjecting themselves to when switching on their cars, prior to getting in, in an attempt to defrost windows and warm up the interior for the commute.

Thefts of this nature have been reported in Kildare, Meath and Dublin.
