It looks like some of the most dangerous sharks could be heading towards Ireland

Irish waters might be getting some new visitors…

If you go for a swim in Ireland these days, the biggest thing that you have to worry about is how freezing cold the water is.

But that could all be about to change…

The increased temperature of Irish water could lead to a serious increase in the amount of sharks we play host to.

According to the Irish Sun, climate change will lead to sharks migrating to Ireland. And the warmer the weather gets, the more sharks we’ll have in our water…

Doctor Ken Collins from Southampton University told the Irish Sun: “You get great whites off the coast of South Africa where the water is colder than here, and I see no reason why we should not have them in our waters. It would not take much of a change in the water temperature from climate change, maybe less than one degree, for them to come here”

Maybe these hot summers aren’t worth it in the long run…

Collins reckons that Cork and Wexford would be the first to experience our new guests, due to their massive seal population, saying: “Seals are like hamburgers to sharks- fat, juicy, and meaty.”

Unlucky lads.

Nat Geo WILD commissioned this research to celebrate Sharkfest, a series of shows that they’re running this week.
