The Luas has confirmed that most of its Green Line will be out of action for a “number of hours”.

The announcement comes after a tree fell onto the tracks between Beechwood and Ranelagh, impacting a power line above the track.

In a tweet, the service confirmed that “significant storm damage” had been suffered, and that 10 trams are affected.

“Green Line operating between Bridesglen to Balally and Dominick to Broombridge. Significant storm damage. Maintenance on site. Service will take a number of hours to resume.”

In a statement on the Luas website, the company wrote:

“A tree has made contact with a Luas Overhead Power Line between Beechwood and Ranelagh.  The wire is wrapped around a tram Pantograph.  Maintenance are on site.  This issue will take a number of hours to correct.  There are 10 trams affected on the Green Line currently.

“Green Line services are running between Brides Glen-Balally and Dominick-Broombridge only. There is no service between Balally and Dominick.  Tickets are valid on Dublin Bus for the duration of the disruption.  Luas Customer Care will update Customers and the Media as we get more information.”

The Red Line is operating as normal for the time being.

As of 3.12pm, there is currently no service between Balally and Dominick due to a fallen tree.

According to Luas, “Green Line services are running between Bridesglen-Balally and Dominick-Broombridge only. There is no service between Balally and Dominick.  Tickets are valid on Dublin Bus for the duration of the disruption.”
