The incident occurred at approximately 10pm on Saturday night.

A man in his 30s has been arrested in relation to a public order incident involving what was believed to be a machete outside a chipper in Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday night (17 August).

CCTV footage captured a number of people involved in a scuffle outside the chipper at the time, during which the machete is alleged to have been wielded.

The footage was captured on CCTV cameras installed as part of a new security system in the town in May; 33 cameras in total were installed throughout the town as part of a €150,000 scheme officially launched by Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan last week.

In a statement to JOE, Gardaí said that the man arrested on Saturday night appeared before Carrick-On-Shannon District Court on Sunday.
