They’re cracking down in Magaluf…

Magaluf was once a hugely popular holiday destination for groups of young people, but internet searches for the destination have fallen in recent years and popularity has waned somewhat.

Council chiefs in Magaluf are worried about the effects that excessive boozing in the resort, which they believe has caused a drop off in tourists.

The reputation of the destination for seediness has also grown in recent years since 2014 footage showed a person performing multiple sex acts in order to get free drinks.

The Council decided that including alcohol in all-inclusive packages should be stopped in a bid to curb “drunkenness tourism” according to the Daily Star Sunday.

A council spokesman told the paper: “The town hall of Calvià is taking measures, from the beginning of the legislature, to put a halt to drunkenness tourism whose culture is basically the excessive consumption of alcohol, that comes from aggressive offers made by some bars and establishments.”

The move will mean that free alcohol will be banned at the resort, including free drinks that are included in any hotel deal.

Locals have welcomed the plan to stop all-you-can-drink offers in pubs, which they believe has been the cause of much of the public drunkenness on display.

Earlier this month, a 20-year-old Irish tourist died after falling from an apartment block in the resort of Magaluf.
