Man (23) and woman (21) killed in collision in Meath

Very sad news.

A 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman have been killed following a road traffic collision in Meath.

The collision involving a car and a lorry occurred on Wednesday afternoon around 1.10pm at Dunmoe, Navan.

The male driver and female passenger of the car were both fatally injured in the collision.

Their bodies have been removed from the scene and taken to Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan where a post mortem examination will take place in the morning.

The driver of the lorry, a 31-year-old man, was uninjured in the collision. He was arrested at the scene and taken to Navan Garda Station but was later released.

Gardaí say investigations into the collision are ongoing.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are at scene and the road remains closed and traffic diversions are in place.

Gardaí in Navan are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this collision to come forward. Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the N51 between Navan and Slane from 12.30pm to 1.15pm to make this footage available to Gardaí.
