Man (80s) in critical condition following serious road traffic collision in Kerry

The incident occurred on Friday evening.

A man in his 80s is in critical condition after being struck by a car in Kerry on Friday evening, 17 January.

The collision took place on the N72 at Churchview in Rathmore at approximately 7.10pm on Friday.

The male pedestrian was seriously injured following the incident and was later removed from the scene by ambulance.

He is currently in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital.

The road where the collision occurred is expected to remain closed overnight in order to allow Garda forensic collision investigators to conduct an examination.

Local diversions are in place as of Friday night.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and road users who travelled on the N72 in the direction of Mallow between 7pm and 7.30pm.

Gardaí are asking in particular of anyone who may have seen a small silver car on the road during this time to make contact with them.
