Man in his 60s dies following fatal single-car crash in Kildare

The R407 road is currently closed while forensic evidence is being examined.

Gardaí are investigating a fatal single-car collision that occurred in Mainham in Clane in County Kildare in the early hours of Wednesday morning (28 July).

Gardaí were alerted to the incident involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on the R407 road between Clane and Kilcock shortly after midnight.

The pedestrian, a man aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been taken to Naas mortuary, where a post-mortem will take place. No other injuries were reported following the incident.

The R407 road is currently closed to allow Forensic Collision Investigators to carry out a technical examination and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí in Naas are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Any road users who were travelling on the R407 between 11.45pm on Tuesday night and 12.15am on Wednesday morning, and who may have camera footage, including dash cam, are being asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
