Man arrested after armed robbery and carjacking in Laois

A man in his 30s has been arrested after an armed robbery and carjacking in Co. Laois this morning.

The man was apprehended by Gardaí after crashing his getaway car, hijacking a second car and then crashing the second vehicle.

According to the Irish Times, the man is also suspected of stealing a quantity of money from a filling station in Emo, Co. Laois. The man used a firearm as part of the incident, and it has been reported that a shot was fired before the suspect fled the scene.

The suspect is currently being treated for injuries sustained in the crash at Midland Regional Hospital.

The incident follows another armed robbery in Crumlin, Dublin 12 earlier on this week – where a Spar employee was knocked unconscious.
