The retailer reported the matter to Gardaí as far back as March.

A man in his 50s has been arrested in Kildare after it was alleged that he received bribes from a supplier in his role as a procurement manager for a large retail business.

The Anti-Corruption Unit of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) carried out an arrest operation on Thursday morning (15 October) in relation to an ongoing investigation into bribery in international business transactions.

The man was arrested and taken to Leixlip Garda Station, where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 for the investigation of offences contrary to the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906, as amended.

The retailer in question, which has not been identified, reported the matter to An Garda Síochána in March 2020 and are cooperating fully with the investigation.

Gardaí say that no further information is available at this time and investigations are ongoing.
