Man (70s) arrested in connection with alleged sexual offences over 30-year period

The investigation concerns complaints relating to an individual associated with Scouting Ireland.

A man in his 70s has been arrested in relation to sexual offences that are alleged to have occurred over a 30-year period.

The man is currently being detained at Togher Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The investigation involves a number of complaints relating to an individual associated with Scouting Ireland. As part of the investigation, Gardaí from the Protective Services Unit in Cork city with the assistance of local Gardaí carried out four searches at properties in Cork and one in Kerry.

During these searches, documentation, electronic devices and computers were seized. Gardaí are continuing to liaise with the review group and child and family agency Tusla in relation to these matters.

Gardaí note that each and every complaint made will be investigated with professionalism and compassion. An Garda Síochána is appealing to any victim or victims that have not yet come forward to make a complaint at their local Garda Station.
