The man arrested is in his 30s.
Gardaí have arrested a man on suspicion of the murder of Ashling Murphy.
The 23-year-old primary school teacher was attacked and killed while out jogging along the canal bank at Cappincur in Tullamore, Offaly at around 4pm last Wednesday.
On Tuesday (18 January), a Garda spokesperson said the man arrested is in his 30s.
He is now detained in Tullamore Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
