Min Bahadur Sherchan, the man who was trying to become the oldest person to have climbed Mount Everest, has died at base camp according to the BBC.
Sherchan, who was 85, had previously held the title before he was displaced by Japan’s Yuichiro Miura who climbed the mountain in 2013, at the age of 80. Mr. Sherchan had previously climbed the mountain himself back in 2008, at the age of 76.
The Kathmandu Post has reported that Mr. Sherchan is suspected to have died of a heart attack. He was pronounced in good physical health prior to setting off on his latest climb, but he had not been in high altitudes since 2015.
Speed-climber Ueli Steck, of Switzerland, died just last week as he prepared to climb Mount Everest. He was 40 years old when he had an accident and fell from the Nuptse wall.
