The NYPD confirmed the news.

A man has been charged in connection with the alleged fatal assault of a Longford man in New York.

21-year-old Drumlish native Danny McGee was found lying unresponsive on the ground outside the Gaslight Bar in Queens shortly before 4am on Thursday morning.

It’s thought he was punched in the head outside the pub. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead.

A man presented himself to police on Friday and was later charged over the incident.

A spokesperson from the New York Police Department last night confirmed 25-year-old Steven O’Brien, 42nd Street, Queens, New York had been arrested and charged with assault.

McGee was originally from Longford, but had been living and working in New York for over a year, and was a member of Fr Manning Gaels GAA club over there.

The club described him “as a young gentleman with a great sense of humour, who was loved by all who knew him.”
