Man charged over fatal road accident that killed three people in Louth

Three people died in a two-car collision that occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A male in his 20s has been charged in relation to a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in Dundalk in the early hours of Saturday morning (29 February).

Three people – a man in his 50s and a woman in her 80s in one car and a man in his 20s in the second car – were pronounced dead at the scene following the crash on the N1 Carrickcarnan in Dundalk at approximately 2.15am on Saturday.

A man in his 20s who was travelling in one of the cars involved was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man charged in relation to the incident appeared at Dundalk District Court at 10.30am on Monday (2 March).

A total of seven people lost their lives on Irish roads at the weekend following incidents in Galway, Cavan, Monaghan and Louth.
