Very sad news.

Two people have died and at least 17 others, including more than a dozen schoolgirls, have been injured after a man armed with at least one knife went on a stabbing rampage at a crowded bus stop near Tokyo.

The incident happened on Tuesday morning in the town of Kawasaki, south of the Japanese capital. At this moment there are no details on the suspect’s motive.

The attack occurred during the busy early morning commute as workers went to their offices and children to school in the area.

Japanese media said a 12-year-old girl and a 39-year-old man had died in hospital from their injuries. It’s also believed that the 57-year-old attacker died of his wounds.

Three girls and a woman in her 40s are being treated for serious injuries.

The 13 injured children, believed to be girls aged from six to 12, are reportedly pupils at Caritas primary school and were waiting for a bus when the the suspect launched his attack.

It is a very harrowing case. I feel strong anger,” Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said.

“I offer my heartfelt condolences to the victims and hope the injured recover quickly.”

US President Donald Trump offered his prayers and sympathies as he wrapped up a state visit to Japan.

Speaking on a Japanese military ship, he said that “all Americans stand with the people of Japan and grieve for the victims and for their families”.
