Man who died after fall on Carrauntoohil named

The man is believed to have fallen around midday on Saturday.

A man who died while out climbing on Carrauntoohil mountain in Kerry has been named as Ger Duffy.

He’s believed to have fallen around midday on Saturday and his body was recovered by Kerry Moutain Rescue.

It’s understood the Valentia Coast Guard also attempted to assist but were unable to land in the terrain.

A Garda spokesperson said that they’re investigating the incident but also said the man appeared to have fallen and no other person was involved.

According to RTÉ, the 58-year-old father of three from Clonlara in Clare fell was an experienced climber who had climbed the mountain many times.

Carrauntoohil is the highest mountain in Ireland, and is part of the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks.
