A man who decided to drink nothing but beer for an entire month has died alone surrounded in a room of empty beer bottles as he struggled to get through his divorce.
44-year-old Thaweesak Namwongsa had only drank beers for an entire month shunning proper food and water as his health quickly deteriorated, leading to his tragic demise. Local media reports on 16 July emergency services were called to the residency at Rayong Province, Thailand – to treat a man suffering from convulsions and seizures at his home.
However when help arrived at the house they found Namwongsa in an unconscious state as his hands and feet turned blue. Despite their best effort emergency services were unable to detect any signs of life from the 44-year-old father and declared the man dead at the scene. Paramedics were met with horror at the state of the house, as they stumbled into rooms filled with beers bottles arranged across the floor in an orderly manner.
After Namwongsa passed his son pulled back the curtain on just how severe his father’s alcohol addiction had become. Namwongsa’s son, aged 16, explained his father drank nothing but beer over the course of the entire month and refused to eat food at all. The son added even though he tried to prepare food for his father – Namwongsa would refuse to eat it.
Namwongsa's son didn’t know if his father possessed any underlying health conditions which might have led to his father’s death or his horrific alcohol addiction.
The boy revealed Namwongsa had taken refuge in drinking to get over a divorce. It is understood the emotional turmoil of getting through the divorce may have led him to replace food with beer. Despite beer being rich in calories it lacks the essential nutrients needed to support a healthy lifestyle alone. Using beer as a food replacement poses serious risks, including nutrient deficiency and liver damage.
