News just in.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in his 30s following an incident in Dublin 5 this morning (Saturday, 16 May).

In a statement, An Garda Síochána said that they and other emergency services responded to a call at a residential property on Brookwood Heights, Artane, shortly after 12.30am.

The man in his 30s was treated at the scene and was subsequently pronounced deceased a short time later.

Another man in his 60s was also arrested at the scene. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in North Dublin.

"The body of the deceased remains at the residence, which is preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau," a Garda spokesperson added.

"The local coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

"A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed, a Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) assigned and an incident room established at Clontarf Garda Station.

"The deceased will be removed in due course for post-mortem examination, which will assist Gardaí in determining the course of the investigation.

"Investigations are ongoing and further updates will follow."

Earlier today, Gardaí confirmed they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of another man, following an unrelated incident on Henry Street in Dublin city.

In a statement, An Garda Síochána says it was alerted about this separate incident shortly after 5pm yesterday (Friday, 15 May).

Security personnel had detained a man in his 30s on Henry Street in connection with "an alleged shoplifting incident at a retail store".

During the incident, another man in his 80s was injured as the suspect attempted to flee. He was taken by ambulance to the Mater Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"The detained male subsequently became unresponsive at the scene and was transported by ambulance to the Mater Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased," a Garda spokesperson said.

"The coroner has been notified, and the Office of the State Pathologist will conduct a post-mortem examination.

"The results of the post-mortem will assist Gardaí in determining the course of their investigation."

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Additionally, they are urging anyone with video footage from the Henry Street area between 5pm and 5.30pm on Friday, 15 May 2026, to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 6668000, the Garda Confidential Line, or any Garda Station.
